Atlantic Ocean - Hola from Spain
We are still heading along the Spanish Atlantic coast and have stopped in Marinas or anchored in a bay somewhere overnight. We really have chosen one of the slowest ways to travel. Sometimes we are on our way for 8 hours and know that by car it would take a fraction of that time. We have stopped in Santander, Cap Pena de la Barra, Gijon, Salamir, Puerto de Viveiro, Coruna, Muxia, Muros and Cies Island (Parque Nacional das Illas Atlanticas de Galicia). If you are not sure where we are you can click on "where we are" menu tab.
We have used our wet weather gear for the first time. Glad we bought it as we had some rainy days before the blue sky appeared again.
We are mostly sailing together but also take shifts so one of us can have a break and do something else or have a sleep. Below is one of Caroline's shifts.
We got a visit from the Guardia Civil on our boat. The Civil Guard is the oldest law enforcement agency in Spain and part of the national police force (see the gun). He was really friendly and checked all our boat and personal documents including our Covid PCR test (still negative)
We also had the Aduanas (this time the Spanish Customs) checking in on us.
and some other lovely visitors, lots of dolphins playing with us for ages. They swam under, next and in front of our boat and put on an amazing show. So gorgeous !
Three pics below from Gijon where we had our first restaurant meal for months (sitting outside).
We are lucky that it is not as busy and that we still can find a place for our boat without having to plan too far ahead.
Following the dash into the city and buying some food we found a lovely anchor spot for the next night. We had two anchor watch apps on overnight. Just to be sure that the anchor holds and does not move into the rocks on either side.
Ate dinner on the boat enjoying the peace and outdoor view.
Below a pic from Viveiro
where we also visited the local supermarket.
We also did a last wash and air dry and headed off to our next destination.
We decided to take a rest in Muros as the weather forecast was not in our favour for the next few days and also as we loved the place and wanted a rest. We have time which is such a luxury these days !
Below a few pics of Muros where we stayed 4 nights.
Sven is in heaven with all the fresh seafood here.
Razor clams - Sven loves these ......
We really like the "FENDERS" (Tires) on these Spanish Fishing boats.
So picturesque!
Love the fishing equipment everywhere.
We also had time to go for some walks. We could not believe that some parts in Muros looked just like in Australia and it felt like a Koala or Kangaroo could appear anytime. There were gum trees, Eucalyptus trees, ferns and even blackberries!
And a visit to a cultural site: The petroglifo "Laxe das Rodas" was also on our agenda and on our way along the beach.
We are currently anchored in Cies Island. We had to apply for a navigation and anchor permission for waters of the Galacian Atlantic Island Maritime - Terrestrial National Park. This was easy to get and everything could be done online via email. A very beautiful spot.
It will get windy tonight so anchor apps are turned on again. Hoping to explore the island tomorrow, beautiful white beaches and so unspoilt.
Our next update will be from Portugal (another PCR Covid test is required to enter - luckily we were able to do this test in Muros in a small Clinik)
those fenders look a lot more cost effective than the ones you guys have been burning and losing
Keep the pics and stories coming. It is great you get to spend four days in one place. Loving this almost as much as you two!
